Dental Implants Brisbane CBD

Having a missing or severely decayed tooth can feel very uncomfortable, both for aesthetic and practical reasons. Modern dental implants are a natural-looking and functional solution. If you’re suffering or feeling self-conscious because of a missing tooth, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for an honest consultation.

What is a dental implant?

A dental or tooth implant is an artificial root commonly made of titanium. The artificial root is inserted into the gum and jawbone to replace one or more missing teeth. This then forms the foundation for a dental crown, bridge or denture.

The most advanced solution for replacing teeth, dental implants come with many benefits, including:

  • Similar functionality as a natural tooth
  • Looks realistic
  • Easy to maintain
  • Long-lasting
  • Your other (healthy) teeth don’t need to be touched

What to expect when getting a dental implant

The process of getting a dental implant includes multiple steps. At Dentistry on George, we can plan and schedule your entire treatment process to fix the situation as efficiently as possible.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks, so before starting treatment, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. Once you have received two professional opinions and have decided to proceed, we start by extracting the tooth that will be replaced.

Once the tooth has been removed, a period of 6-8 weeks is advised to allow the bone and gum to fill in before placing the dental implant. Once this has happened, we’ll refer you to one of our trusted dental surgeon colleagues to place the implant. When the implant is put in, the bone and gum will then mature and integrate around it.

The integration process usually takes a further 3-4 months. Once that time has passed, we can fit a dental crown to the implant here at our clinic.

Who are dental implants for?

Dental implants are a great solution to missing or severely decayed teeth, bringing relief to many people. However, it’s an invasive surgical treatment, so it’s not right for everyone.

While dental implants last longer than dentures, they’re also more costly.  The process also takes a bit longer due to the gums and bone needing sufficient time to heal. The right solution for you will depend on your needs, budget and goals.

At Dentistry on George, we put our patients’ health first. We take pride in offering honest advice, never recommending treatment that isn’t medically necessary. Book in for a consultation with our experienced dentist if you’d like to find out more about dental implants and whether they suit you.

Frequently Asked Questions

When the titanium implant is put in, you’ll be under anaesthesia and won’t feel any pain. Most people feel very little discomfort throughout the procedure. Speak to our team if you have a fear of the dentist or feel worried about anything.

Because of the surgical and technical extent of the treatment, dental implants do come at a cost. At Dentistry on George, our prices reflect the Australian Dental Association’s average fee guide. We’ll give you a full quote on all treatment involved in getting an implant before starting out. This includes the surgery with one of our specialist colleagues.

Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution.  The titanium root can last a lifetime in many cases, but the crown over it might need to be changed now and then. Dental crowns typically last around 15 years, and with proper maintenance, even more.

You can be if you chose to be. However, most people prefer to stay awake.
